PDA's as a driver of Logistics 4.0

The Renewal of the Industry Requires Adapting to a New Global and Digital Environment—Logistics Included
The integration of cutting-edge technology has become an essential factor in reducing time, costs, and errors like never before, laying the foundation for a new paradigm.

The Logistics of the Future

Beyond an extensive product catalog or a well-executed marketing strategy, logistics has become a key factor for companies in any sector. As a result, businesses now have new fundamental objectives: delivering excellent service, offering personalized solutions, managing distribution costs efficiently, and providing return guarantees.

To achieve this, solid solutions are needed to handle efficient and high-quality logistics strategies and processes—adding significant value. It means being prepared to deal with extra costs, unusual demand spikes, delivery incidents, and more. Key aspects include:

  • The ability to deliver orders on time
  • The use of real-time data and IoT applications
  • The use of tools to manage stock and track orders

The PDA, a Product of Innovation

Smart equipment is the backbone of supply chain automation and maximizing its value. This is already a reality through the PDA, an essential device for ensuring traceability and scalability by consolidating tasks into a single tool.

Features such as GPS technology enable the precise, real-time location of goods, allowing for route optimization, risk reduction, and better load control. On the other hand, barcodes have evolved into RFID scanning, offering accessible enriched data that allows workers to interact directly with goods—essential for knowing whether a component, semi-finished product, or finished product is entering or leaving a specific area.

This must be complemented by a management system using WMS (Warehouse Management System) software integrated with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). This simplifies all operations and processes within a single database, allowing accurate tracking of each object’s position and movements—always knowing where it is and at what point in the production process it currently stands.

Vega, One Step Further

Thunderbook is proud to be part of this evolution, contributing new ideas and engineering through our R&D department. Once again, after thoroughly analyzing the sector’s needs, we’ve developed our own PDAs.

One of them is Vega—a PDA with all the features you expect from a device of its kind: High-precision, long-range RFID (15 meters), NFC technology, QualcomSnapdragon 662 Octa Core CPU,  Multiple ports (USB, SIM, Micro SD), Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

What sets Vega apart is its compatibility and battery life. It is 100% compatible with the hardware and software of any management system, thanks to a built-in MDM (Mobile Device Management) solution with high synchronization capability.

As for the battery, it delivers 6,700mAh (12 hours of runtime), is hot-swappable (the device remains powered during replacement), and includes a pistol grip with an additional built-in battery in the handle. In short, Vega is a true non-stop PDA.

Halley, a Compact Yet Powerful Alternative

Rugged smartphones are gaining popularity for being more functional thanks to their smaller size and lighter weight. And of course, we didn’t want to be left behind. Our handheld device is called Halley.

In developing this device, we leveraged the advantages of the Vega PDA—specifically geared toward logistics, warehouse management, transportation, and inventory tasks. But Halley goes even further: it includes the option for an internal UHF reader and a 3D camera.

Why did we add these features?

-3D Camera: One of the most common problems in a warehouse is wasted space. With this feature, you can measure any area and/or merchandise to organize your stock with millimeter precision.

-Internal UHF Reader: For sectors with smaller-scale operations like retail, a short-range reader without external support is more convenient and cost-effective.
